Judging by the way the schedules have been flying off the counter at Tetbury Hardware, we are in for another bumper Summer Show on Sunday 14th August. If we run out of hard copies you will be able to download all the information you need from our web page www.tetburysummershow.co.uk. Please submit all completed entry forms to the collection point in Tetbury Hardware, by noon on Thursday 11th August. Also a final reminder that all cups awarded in 2015 must be returned by 1st July and there is a choice of three addresses to which these should be delivered, details are contained in the schedule. On show day, bring all your floral, baking and craft exhibits to the large marquee on the recreation ground between 7.30 am and 10.00 am as the marquee will close at this time for judging to get underway. While a number of new categories have been introduced this year, many old favourites draw high level of interest, this is very evident in the children’s section. In particular the garden on a plate and an animal made from fruit or vegetable allow for a great deal of creativity and are a delight to see. If all the family want to get involved then building a scarecrow is for you and we have two categories this year, both adult and child.
The show has grown significantly in recent years and now offers many family attractions and one of these, the Fun Dog Show which gets underway at 2.00 pm draws a huge crowd. This event, as usual sponsored by the George Veterinary Group, attracts around 100 entries and these will once again be judged by our local Vet, Cyril. As usual, all dogs must be kept on a lead at all times and owners will be required to clean up after their pets if necessary. Craft stalls is another growth area and we already have a good number of stall holders signed up providing a range of very individual crafts and services from far and wide. However, given the size of the recreation ground we can accommodate more so if there are any local producers who wish to have a stall, please call Ken on 01666 504189 for further details.
One of the more recent enhancements to the show has been the introduction of the parade from Market Place, through the town arriving at the show ground at 1.00 pm. While highways restrictions mean this cannot be a large parade, it is certainly colourful and noisy being led by the City of Bristol Pipes and Drums. There will be several new attractions this year and while some arrangements are yet to be finalised we are very optimistic of securing a carnival element as negotiations are underway with the organisers of the Art Couture Painswick Festival taking place on Sunday 17th July. This is an extraordinary festival of wearable art; it is hoped that a link with Tetbury will add a “Notting Hill” element to the Summer Show parade for you to enjoy.
